Implementation

This site is implemented on a Sun Microsystems Enterprise Server running Apache web server software.

The site design uses PHP 4 to break down an individual page into its component parts. In general, we maintain only one dynamic HTML file (/index.phtml). Every other page on this site is actually a symbolic link to this file on the server filesystem. The individual page components are included dynamically based on the symbolic link name.

For example let's suppose that we create a symbolic link to /index.phtml called cool_new_page.phtml. The document content will be included from a file named cool_new_page.phtml.content located in the same directory.

Required include files

• .content
  the document content (text and HTML markup allowed)
• .author
  the content author (text and HTML A tags allowed)

Recommended include files

• .title
  the document title (text only)
• .meta
  items for inclusion into the HTML document header (alternate style sheets, META tags, and scripts allowed)
